http://www.debenhams.com/customer-service/returns-and-refunds wasn't exactly hard to find ... 10 seconds of my time as its off their homepage - you could have found it in less time than it took to ask the question:

    "Online refund policy

Debenhams will be happy to exchange or refund your purchase within 28 days of delivery, for Collect from Store orders the 28 days starts after you have received your 'Order Ready for Collection' email. Your refund will be credited to the original payment card, if you have used a Debenhams giftcard your refund will automatically be credited to the original giftcard. If you no longer have the original giftcard please contact Customer Services on 0844 800 8877.

Unwanted goods must be returned in a fully resaleable condition and any tags must be intact. Extra care must be taken when trying on clothing, please ensure that you are not wearing any make-up, fragrance or deodorant that may leave a scent or mark. We reserve the right to refuse an exchange or refund if goods are not returned in a saleable condition or are damaged.

    Health and hygiene

For reasons of health and hygiene we are unable to exchange or refund the following products:
Cosmetics/fragrance once the original packaging has been opened, unless faulty.
Pierced earrings and other pierced body jewellery unless faulty.
Quilts, duvets, pillows and mattresses once the packaging has been opened or damaged unless faulty.
    Gift food, products containing alcohol.
Underwear/lingerie, control wear, hosiery and swimwear unless the hygiene strips and tags are still in place.
Hats and hair accessories, no exchange on grounds of health and safety unless hygiene strips / tags are still in place and packaging remains unopened and undamaged unless faulty."
  • Definitely not if they are for pierced ears, but it looks like they will take them back if they are clips as long as the packaging is intact etc.
  • Ok thanks for your help.

This advice is nonsense. It doesn't matter what Debenhams' T&Cs say. These items will be covered by the distance selling regulations and provided you tell Debenhams within 7 working days of receiving them that you don't want them, they must return your money. There is no exemption just because they're earrings. However, the DSR does have this to say about earrings so I suggest you tamper with them as little as possible. But if Debenhams don't refund your money, they're denying you your statutory rights.
You may ask consumers to return goods with the original packaging,
but you cannot insist on this. In the case of goods such as earrings
that have hygiene seals, you may require consumers to exercise
reasonable care by not removing the seals when examining them.
