New laptop

Hi, looking to purchase a new laptop and interested in the Acer 5742 after seeing this on Hot UK Deals a few days ago http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/acer-5742-core-i5-laptop-with-4gb-memory-395-59-delivered-dixons/903446 unfortunatley it's now gone up and will be £413.99.

I've also seen this http://www.johnlewis.com/231132819/Product.aspx
- it's more expensive but has a faster processor and 2 years guarantee.

Any feedback on these would be appreciated or recommendations for another laptop.

Thank you

I don't recommend buying any laptop without touching it.

It's overpowered if all you use it for is browsing

    Something wrong with your Lenovo?

I've been to PC World and 'touched it' but it's £499 there for the one with the same spec as the Dixons' one.

My Lenovo is running a bit slow and feel that I need something with a bigger screen - the Lenovo is 12".

I suppose the ones I've seen are a little overpowered - any good deals on a decent ones?

    Thanks

Threads like this are quite common, if you have a browse around, there's probably quite a few links to the latest deals. Really depends on what you want to use it for, a £299 model might do if the small screen is a big issue

This site seems to offer an 8% discount at Dixons. http://www.dealgiant.co.uk/best-laptop-deals-2011/
Click on "Discount Voucher Codes" just above the top laptop picture

Closed - thank you for the above link. It's taken me until now to have the time to go through the instructions and the laptop is running faster.

Forgot to mention previously that I also have a problem with the webcam - I just get a dark screen when it's on. I've think that I may need to do something with the 'drivers' but not sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Lenovo usually have a software/driver update utility installed, which you can run to show and download all the latest updates for your particular system.

It's a while since I have had a Lenovo, but I think it was ThinkVantage System Update
