Ipod touch loosing date and app order

Hi. I have an 8gb ipod touch that is about 15 months old. I think it's a 2nd or 3rd gen (trying to find out which but having no luck).
For the past month or so whenever the battery dies it resets the time and date.
Also, it seems to like changing the order of my apps, and the other week removed all the folders I'd spent ages painstakingly making. In fact, when I synched it this evening with itunes, it changed the apps again.
I back it up to itunes regularly and it has the current iOS installed - 4.2.1
Does anyone have any ideas what may be wrong with it and/or if there is anything I can do? I'm not very techie, but I do try my best - but now I'm heavily pregnant I've lost patience with it and want to throw it out the window . Please help me save me ipod, my DH won't let me buy another if this has an 'accident' :rotfl: Jo.
When life gives you lemons make lemonade. When life gives you chocolate......eat it! :rotfl:
