British gas financial whizz kids (not)
Just recieved my quarterly bill from British gas. On the covering email it states that my direct debits need increassing by £6.00 per month.
However i am more in credit than after the last bill.
I may not have a university degree in financial studies but even I can work out that my direct debits should be reducing.
How much do the people get paid for working these things out? I know how much I would pay them!!!!
Let me guess when i ring them they will blame it on the computer, don't know about their computer but I have to tell mine what to do.

You need to understand how they (and all other utility companies) calculate the monthly DD. Its got s.d all to do with how much you are in credit or debit at a single point in time but eveything to do with your having a balanced monthly payment over the twelve months that covers your usage over that 12 months. Simples.
Eon Company Rep has already explained it rather better on your "Eon con" thread.
Cheers
Edit - and I just spotted that the Eon thread was 16 months ago. If you understood the answer then why do you not understand it now?The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0 -
You also have to consider that if your not on a fixed tariff your price increased in December. So even if your usage over the year is the same as last years the total payable over the year will increase : DD= (price x kwh)/12
With out being too pedantic, you could be in £10 credit?0
