I think the money needs to be in your bank account (and cleared) the night before any DD is due. As far as I know DDs come out of your bank account first thing in the morning, so paying the money in at 9.30 would never work. The insurance company can't keep trying every few mins to see if you've paid it in. They request it once and they usually don't find out until a few days later whether it's cleared or not. Who charged you the £15? Your bank or the insurer? I presume the insurer has cancelled your policy because of non-payment. Did they give you chance to pay after the DD had bounced?0

Hi, as starrystarry says, you would probably need to have enough money in your account by close of business the previous day. The trouble is that you have made an agreement with them and you have broken the contract, if I were you I would try every means to get them to reconsider otherwise when applying for insurance in the future you will have to declare that you have had insurance cancelled.!!!0

Yes it's legal as you didn't pay.
As Keith says try to get them to re-instate it whatever the cost.
Otherwise you have to declare cancelled insurance for ever and this will prevent you using a lot of on-line systems and may put your quotes up in future.
You really don't want this stigma forever, so eat humble pie and pay whatever you need to.
However some insurance companies are being very hard line on this. They can't be bothered to be messed around like this it's simply not worth their while, so yes they can do it.0 -
Phone them and see if they allow you to take this months payment by debit card and then setup a direct debit again for next month.
If your bank has charged you £15 as you had no funds and got charged, ask your branch manager to waive the cost if it is the first time as you were unaware.0
