Confused about switching...

Hi all,

I'm currently on eon fixed online 7 which ends 1/5/11. I want to switch to edf fixed saver.
On this forum, i read that you can switch from 4 weeks before the tariff ends and not have to pay the penalty fee for leaving early (£30)

When I rung simply switch, I was told not to switch until less than 2 weeks to my end date otherwise I'd have to pay.

When I rung energy helpline they said I'd have to pay the leaving fee unless I switched on 1st May. But then they'd automatically put me onto a higher tariff anyway (difference b/w current and next likely one is £260 - so i'd end up paying an extra ~£25 anyway for that period).

I'm confused - when should I switch?

Why do you think you are going to end up paying £25 extra?

You are not using the same amount of gas now as you were using in the winter or is your usage exactly 1/12th of your yearly bill every month?

Your direct debit is 1/12th of your yearly bill.

Anyway is it not better to lose £25 rather than £30 for switching too early?

Why don't you call Eon and ask them? They are the ones who will know how they manage their own bills.

    Hi peace

Provided the switch completes after the tariff end date, you will not be charged a cancellation fee.

Switches usually take between 4 to 6 weeks to go through. Therefore, if you start the switch in the next couple of weeks you should be well in.

Also, we don't usually give discount on the final bill when changing supplier. However, as you will have completed the full term of Fixonline 7, you will receive all the discount applicable to this tariff even if part of this falls within the final bill.

The only discount you'll miss out on will be for the period between the end of Fixonline 7 and the switch date.

Hope this answers your questions peace. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
