I have a Cube desktop pc with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2400MHz processor and a GeForce GT220 Video Card. The os is Vista. I use PC Wizard 2010 to get my temperatures etc. I get a BSD every couple of days.
My Processor shows the following temperatures:
At Startup. Core 1. 58c Core 2. 57c Core 3. 52c Core 4. 54c
Light use Core 1. 63c Core 2. 62c Core 3. 59c Core 4. 60c
Burning etc Core 1. 82c Core 2. 80c Core 3. 78c Core 4. 78c
Is this too high? Any advice would be appreciated.

right now my PC is sitting at
core 1 40c
core 2 33c
core 3 24c
core 4 33c
i a well cooled Antec 900 case0 -
I would start by taking the side off for a couple of days and monitoring temps. Then if they dropped significantly, I would think about improving the airflow through the case by changing the intake and extraction fans to (larger ?) more powerful ones, obviously mindful of additional noise from faster models.0

Your temps are way too high. Re-seat the cpu with fresh thermal paste.
edit: See - http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=542130 -
fired up Prime 95
core 1 43c
core 2 42c
core 3 39c
core 4 38c
so you seem hot
is the fan running?
did you build it yourself?0 -
Thank you all for your comments. It would appear that I am running much too hot. Its a Cube PC http://www.cube247.co.uk/ . The ventilation seems pretty good and PC Wizard 2010 shows both fans running. Fresh thermal paste seems to be the next move. Thank you all .I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

I'd cross reference the reported temp with what the BIOS says before I go looking for a fault that may not be there.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0

Press the relevant key when prompted and this will take you to the BIOS setup pages where you can view the various system info reported by the motherboard sensors.
If the thought of playing around in the BIOS puts you off, then use another piece of software such as Motherboard Monitor to get a second opinion.
Also take a good look at the CPU fan/heatsink, I suspect that will more than likely be clogged with dirt & dust which won't help.
While you are at it, you should also check the fan on your video card to ensure that is relatively dust free as well.
If either are clogged up, a small can of air duster is all you will need.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0
