synchronising e-mails between two laptops

As the title says, is there a way to synchronise e-mails between two laptops, or do I need to save them all to a seperate drive then import them....and vice-versa later on

depends on who your ISP/Email provider is, can you not access the email account via their web based client instead ?
( might be too late for the emails which are already downloaded but a better way for the future)

Syncing (on an on going basis) is going to be a bit of a pain IMHO

Who is your email provider? Do they support IMAP?

Easiest way is to have emails set up as IMAP

Hi, went through all this about 2 years ago.
Started off with IMAP from GMX.com (free). It had a great email collecter that collected the mails from all my other ISP accounts and then sent them to me when I opened my mail client (Outlook although I think Outlook Express supports Imap as well).

Then Moved to Gmail (Also free) which also collects email from other ISps which also cleared up the problems I was having with GMX "hanging"

The Beauty of IMAP is that if your PC fails ands needs a reformat all the folders that you have created and mails downloaded are stored on the Gmail server so it takes seconds to recover your mail.

Also is great in your case that you can download mail to one PC and as long as you do not delete it, the same email can be downloaded to your second PC. Obviously if you do delete the email it will not be downloaded to your second PC.

You can also set Gmail to not delete Emails from your ISP once it has "collected" them, that way a copy, if needed, is still avaialble via your original ISPs web Mail page.

    Good luck

I use Windows Live Mail and read my GMail and Hotmail accounts through this programme.

Can be set up on both PCs.

The best thing is to synchronise via IMAP, but if the emails are no longer available online, you can synchronise the archive itself using synchronising software. I'd recommend Syncplicity (over internet, 2GB free quota) or SyncToy (over LAN), both free. but there are lots of them.

Also, if your mailbox quota is low and/or IMAP isn't offered, you could probably synchronise more easily using Gmail: pull new emails into a Gmail account via POP3, and then access from there using IMAP or POP3.
