i am wanting a new laptop for every day tasks such as email, word processing , surfing the net , iplayer, uploading photos
is this any good from dabs at 279.99

If you are on a limited budget, that will suit the needs you state perfectly. There will be Core i3 (and possibly Core i5) laptops available at the upper end of the prices range you say, but laptop prices and specs change every week...
Just from that site, in the low end of the biudget you state I might be tempted with this Samsung http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-rv510-intel-dual-core-t3500-3gb-ram--320gb-hdd-windows-7-home-premium-15-6--screen-laptop-75TH.html but no doubt there will be others that find different / better ones there too.0 -

That seems OK, hopefully there will be others around to give advice. At the £300-ish range of the market there's not a huge real-world difference in laptop ability IMO. Other peoples opinions may differ of course
