Seen this posted on HUKD also and ppl have said it would be better to sell to them online as you can't guarantee that the shop would have the £215 cash in their tills to give to you.0

Surely when using an acronym, the letters used would take on the same sound as their full counter-part word.
For example,
Computer Exchange shortened to C.E.X and pronounced as one word would become CEX (as in KEK's) due the the "Kuh" sound of Computer
Whereas if the first word was "Certain" it would take on the "Suh" sound and become CEX (as in Sex)
At least thats how I would explain it to my kids.
If i were excessively prudish.0 -

Anyway, be careful CEX will often say they often say they don't have the money in the till!
I think that you are in the wrong job.0 -
I think if I was in the wrong job I would've been fired by now0

I have always reffered to it as C.E.X, BUt what is so wrong with a child using the word sex?
LOL I had never thought of it like that. My son (almost 7) calls it CEX (as in Kex with a K) kind of like the slang for trousers.
Always thought that was rather funny. Depends on each persons perception of the abbreviation I guess0 -

When CeX say they don't have the money in the tills, they genuinely don't have the money in the tills. I worked there 3 years ago and we used to do daily runs to the bank to deposit £XXX that head office asked us to. This left us with hardly anything in the tills and not enough to give out for cash. On a good day, we would be able to do cash again by 4pm that day but not on the more expensive items such as PS3's, laptops etc.0 -
CEX are ok I guess. I have sold mobile phones there. Although they quite often tell you that they have no money left in the till, so you could end up walking straight back out with the console still under your arm. You could take store credit, but that's a bit pointless if you don't intend on spending it there.
Also, be careful with their grading system, some staff will deliberately grade the items condition lower, so they don't have to pay out as much. I traded a Nokia N95, which was definitely a Grade A, but they graded it a B, because apparently it had a mark on the camera lens, I checked the phone thoroughly and couldn't see anything.
I did still let them have the phone, as I couldn't be bothered with dealing with all the numpties on Ebay :rotfl: and I needed the cash.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -
