First EDF bill plz help
Hi,
I have moved to a new flat on 12 jan 2011 , and a week ago I got my first electricity bill from EDF wich was estimated as I didnt give them the reading when I moved because I coudnt find where is the meter ( same time I had problem with getting deposit back for the old flat and just forget about the reading thing ), the bill was 213£ for the period of 2 months , when I checked the meter I found that is so far less than the estimated ( its economy seven rate ) on the 13 jan they started the reading 40960 for the day and my reading on the 21 march was only 34070, for the night they started 69350 and my reading is only 46375
I called them and said to me that the will sort it out for me and send me a correct bill , and today I recieved the new bill and was chocked that the amount is 393£ for 2 months !!! they have changed the meter reading but still the starting one are estimated !!! based on what they do the estimation as its my first bill ?
Its a one bedroom flat ,there is no gas in the flat just electric , and have central heating and hot water as the flat is in a big block in central london
Any advice of what I have to do now because the bill is based on an estimated starting reading its really too much for me to use 3353units in 2 months and use a daily average of 55 units
thank you

You really really needed to give them the reading when you moved in. How else are you going to be billed correctly ? Is it a rented flat ? The agents might have a reading from when the previous occupants moved out ?0

Hi kanari - It appears from your post that EDF estimated your moving-in Day reading as 40960, but on the 21st March the meter actually read 34070 - 6890 units less than the Start reading
Likewise the moving-in Night reading was estimated at 69350, but on March 21st the meter actually read 46375 - 22097 units less than the Start reading
Though you are on a sticky wicket as you failed to advise EDF of the meter readings when you moved in, something is very wrong somewhere
Do not rely on the staff on the Customer Service phone to sort this out - You must WRITE to EDF
quoting the readings, and if at all possible enclose photo's of your meters with a newspaper of that days date0 -
thank you vuvusela and dogshome for the advices
I think it has been sort it out
what I did is before I called them I took the actuel meter reading and the reading given by me for the date 15 march and do this to get daily usage units :
for day 34414-34203/ 10 ( 10 days from 15 to 25 march ) = 21.1
for night 46356-46275/10 = 8.1
21.1+8.1= 29.2 units
a biiiiiiiiiiig diffrence from 54.96 to 29.2 !!!
So I called them and said to me that they will recalculate the bill using the 29.2 units daily usage
I think its fair now
thank you again0 -
Good for you. You've probably done well out of that deal as we've had good weather here in Central London the last few days so you won't have used as much elec on heating as before.0
