Just to let you know it went really well on Friday. My daughter is going to sit the aptitude test as soon as she finishes her exams so she will know if she can apply at officer level.

I almost wish I could join up myself!

I was really impressed by the other youngsters at the presentation as well - lovely to have such a sense of pride in the next generation.
    One life.

    Killing people?
    Being killed?

And there speaks someone with no knowledge of the military.

I agree with what PaulRN says. Join as an engineering officer if she is qualified. If she does not do as well as hoped in sixth form she could then join the warfare branch as a rating, then pick up the necessary qualifications while serving. I think from memory there are opportunities to transfer from rating to Officer at various stages of promotion. If selected all ratings must pass the AIB Admiralty Interview Board stage, which can be quite challenging. Details of which can be found on the RN Website. I served 22 year in the RN initially in the Operations Branch which was amalgamated in the mid nineties to form the new Warfare Branch. Ratings where given the opportunity to specify in either Warfare or engineering at the Leading Hand level depending on their aptitude and suitability for either. That gives her 2 options for exploring a career as an Officer, direct entry via the Uni route or joining as a rating. Though things might have changed since I left.

    Good Luck

    What a stupid comment !!

    Weapon engineering includes, amongst many other things:- communications; radio, sat & telecomms; radars; computing;

Do you find it disturbing when your holiday flight is controlled by all these things ??? Quite possibly by a Military air traffic control operator as well.................

^^ Retard of the year, right there ^^

The reason you are free to post your nonsense is because someone had a good pasting in the past.

You seriously have no idea just how much Humanitarian work the Armed Forces conduct... in fact, you simply have no clue period!

Retard of the century right there ^^^. I hope it wasn't you who got the pasting. Too soft a target.

For your information I served 6 years in the RN, as an adult not a junior. I did not like it enough to make a career of it but I do have some fond memories of my time. I'd like to say it helped my future career but it didn't. Not one iota.

True, I have no idea what it's like now but I'll bet it's a lot more touchy feely than my day. Probably lie in bed till 10 o'clock, hugs from the D.O. and "give me 20 press ups please" on the parade ground :D.

Andy, our systems were fired in anger but I got lucky. My ship was hit just before I was due to join so I ended up in Pompey dockyard instead of the front line.

The OP specifically asked us to "point out anything you think she should be aware of - warts and all?", which I did.

    Bore off.....

edit; reading your post you obviously know just how silly you're being.

Hardly constructive use of your experience, I'm sure she's well aware of the possible situations she may find herself in.

Perhaps staying in Pompey was the best place for you.

    Seriously, you're a jackass.

I served over 23years in the RN and COULD handle it, warts 'n' all, as do thousands of other people with a spine.

I'm sure you get more job satisfaction as a hairdresser now than you ever got serving in HM Forces.
