Car Insurance and NCB

I have 4 years NCB. I took out a policy with Swintons in April 2010. I then changed my car in October 2010, still with Swinton.
Will I receive another NCB in April 2011? If so, will there be a mid term adjustment (decrease) in my policy?
Its just that I know I could get a cheaper quote with an extra NCB and would cancel the policy next month and switch.
I'm hoping Swinton aren't going to pull the wool and say I have to wait until October to get another NCB.

Your advice as always greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, provided you amended your policy, rather than did a cancelleation and started a new policy.

Not quite sure what you mean here.
There should have been a mid-term adjustment in October (either increase or decrease) depending on the car.
Do you mean will your new premium go down?
Well you should get a increase discount but car insurance went up 30% in 2010, so most likely you will see an incrase despite more discount.

    Be careful.
As well as the loss of your NCB since April, you will have cancellation fees, short term rates and possibly finance fees and broker commission.
Almost certainly not worth doing it at this late stage. Just wait til the end of the year, then switch.
Make sure you tell them to lapse the policy, prefereably by recorded delivery.
If you do it over the phone then jot down the name, date and time (might come in handy if you later need to request a recorded call).

This should not be the case.
You almost certainly amended an existing annual policy rather than started a new one.
There could be exceptions to this for example if your existing insurer would not insurer the type of new car you had and you needed to go elsewhere, but if you policy had been cancelled and a new one started then you'd definitely know about it as you would have to pay and you would have had paperwork.
  • I was with Swinton last year - took out the policy in March and changed car in September so amended the policy, I've just had my years no claims as usual.

    Hope that helps!
