Claim for water damage

Options
Advise needed

Hi....I have made a claim on my insurance for water damage due to a radiator leak in my living room.
I was away for a few days and when I came home I found that the water was about 3 inches deep.
The insurance company had instructed a cleaning company to clean up the room, also to remove the chesterfield suite dry it out and restore it. All the other furniture and carpet has been allowed for.

I have been told by friends that I should not accept the suite back because the suite is made a of chipwood carcass and when it gets wet it expands, Therefor all the joints would weaken and could fall apart when the suite is beening used in say 3-4 wks or longer.

What should I do?

personally I would rely on the experts rather than a friend. If it is deemed repairable and the did fall apart a few weeks later then it would be a complaint to the insurers and get it replaced then

i sympathise with you we have just suffered the same, we had the whole downstairs of the house flooded!. As far as the suite, we have had no problem with our insurance company. it was looked at and as it was sat in 4 inches of water has been effectively wrote off.
personally i would not have accepted our suite back. i would have argued with the company.
trying hard to count my blessings while surrounded by idiots :O)
