I have cancelled my BT contract early and they want to charge me £25 for this, however....it has just been announced that BT are hiking their prices AGAIN so am able to say to them that because of this i can cancel my contract at no charge?? It does say in the terms that if there is a price change and it is to my 'material disadvantage' i have the right to cancel.
I haven't actually received a letter or email from them telling me of this price hike so i could be on to a sticky wicket?! Just wondered if i could blag it??! Maybe refuse payment until the letter arrives....???!!
Thank you in advance. Barney

Which came first? Cancelling the contract or hearing of the price rise? if you heard of the price rise after you cancelled, there really is no material disadvantage and you would be using it as a pretext, so don't expect to get away with it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The £25 cease charge was introduced about 2 years by Openreach, all ISP's, including BT, levy it if you cease your service without using a MAC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

^MAC is broadbandSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

Indeed it is, but the OP just states 'BT contract', so there may well be broadband as well as a phone contract involved. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

No - tariffs play no part in the service contract. Price increases are an acceptable evil, your only hope would be if the increases were 'unreasonable', and for that you would need to be looking at 10% or more in the basic rental costs. Without this, you would not have any justification to pursue it.0
