Uh oh, plastic backed bibs ended up in dryer!!s

As the title says, accidentally put a couple of plastic backed bibs in the dryer as got caught up with other washing. They're totally melted and the washer dryer stinks. Also some plastic in the drum! We've only had it two days, please tell me I've not broken it!!

Should I put it on a wash to try and clean it out or what? Can't believe I did that. Fortunately hubby not up yet as had a late one so got a bit of time to try and remedy it.

I'd get it looked at, I put the plastic backed bibs in the dryer and the plastic gets crispy over time but they never melt.. it sounds like the heater is dodgy to me!

A wash cycle should shift it or just peel it off I can't see it sticking well to metal.

I think it depends on the kind of plastic on the bibs, in the past I've accidentally put ds's bibs in the dryer from time to time, some (usually the more expensive ones) were fine but others (the cheap ones) melted.

I would try peeling the melted plastic off, you might be surprised how easily it will peel off with the help of a blunt knife. If not then try doing a hot wash with an old towel in and hopefully the hot water and the roughness of the towel will be enough to bring the melted plastic off.

    Another thought..

Most W/D do for exampe a 7kg wash load but a maximum 4kg drying load.. so if you had a fullload to wash and it went straight to drying it could be it was too full so overheated.

Thank you! The melted plastic peeled off really easily just hope there is none in the machine anywhere else. Have put some towels in on 40 so will see how that goes. It's brand new, if I've knackered it my OH will not be impressed!

    Wish me luck.

Oh and have hidden evidence of melted bibs deep in the bin!

Thats good news, I doubt there will be any plastic anwhere else, I think it tends to just stick to the drum, it won't have melted in the wash cycle just the drying one. I bet you won't make that mistake again though :rotfl:

God no!! The washing machine is making all the right noises thankfully and the smell had dissipated by the time OH got up so he is none the wiser.

To think I'm supposed to be a functioning adult due back at work in just over a week! Will I try and use the telephone as a hairdryer?

I've done this :o but fortunately the plastic just shrivelled into itself, it didn't stick to the drum.

I did this with cheap nappy wraps, fortunately just shrivelled together.
    Ah Pigpen, you've reassured me.
Glad the washer is ok though.

I'm sure I've been worse with this one. Don't remember being quite so forgetful with DD but maybe I was and just forgot :D

Yeah, they kind of shrivelled up and could only find that one bit of plastic. I've had several more washes on and house is still standing, so all good!
