Have not read all the thread (but will do), but it just came to mind that another reason for the success of the Bank of Mum and Dad (for me) is the gorgeous Lawrence Gold, the financial advisor.!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Thank You beakyshark I had a feeling that was probably the case, it makes sense because I heard that was the same tactic used in How Clean is Your House.
I will certainly watch it with new eyes next week and will try not to be as critical as I have beenBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

It comes and visits me sometimes too
But I quickly realise that I am by no mean destitute like some people are in the UK. But it doesn't prevent me daydreaming about what I would do if DH or I could earn £100k/year
:rotfl::rotfl:...well...maybes I shoulda been a little clearer here - in that, where I notice, the Green Eyed Monster is around is of other people envying what level of finances I have (though they are only very "ordinary")...
But - I DO admit to feeling a bit jealous of when others are better-looking than me - and I'll just compliment them on their better figure/hair/skin/or whatever else I've noticed and say, jokingly, "You've got really nice hair:) - wish I did too...:(". Might as well admit to being jealous there:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
After reading your post I wonder if you've read Alain de Botton. If not there's a couple of books you may enjoy by him: "Status Anxiety" and "The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work". I've just had them from the library here, and they were both illuminating and amusing, and from your posts seem like your style.
Hello Softstuff, glad to bump into you again. Thanks for the tip about The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work; I shall get it from the library asap. I have read the other one and enjoyed it.
I cruise the library at random several times a month and allow serendipity to guide my hand to interesting volumes and am always up for things about simple living/ frugality/ philosophy etc. We live in interesting times; never has it been possible for so many to have so much and yet so many of us have troubled souls.
I've spent the best part of the last couple of hours reading in minimalist blogs and dejunking my kitchen cupboards/ drawer of superflous things. Going a bit nutso with stuff which I think you'll understand as you live very simply yourself.
Have you resolved the mass-appliance-death problem which you posted about last month? I mentioned in passing to my Mum that there was this lady in Australia with stuff keeling over left right and centre and she said it was a pity you were over there or she'd offer you her countertop oven (she was being perfectly genuine btw). Still, until we can teleport large chunks of metal around the planet, that's not going to be viable. :rotfl:
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Don't we all :rotfl: Actually, I do not begrudge people their wealth or beauty as long as they are nice and decent peopleBut it doesn't prevent me from wondering why I can't be wealthy and beautiful
I am happy though, that must count for something

I do that too, somehow by acknowledging you're envious turns what could be a nasty, destructive emotion into something more positiveMake £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

I think the difference is a bit of envy...which most of us I'm sure feel sometimes and is almost a compliment and can be a motivator, versus a destructive emotion of jealousy which helps noone and grows blowing the object of the emption into a bigger thing than it is....contaminating other thoughts you have about the person/thing you are jealous of and becomes self destructive and limiting.0
