Credit Report - Late Payment! :(

how 'wordy' can these notes be? would it be acceptable or effective to copy/paste my first post from this thread, or is it more along the lines of a single sentence? Any examples of the style I should adopt?0

I would go armed with your credit report as they will no doubt ask you to provide it as evidence etc. I really hope you get it sorted out theres something not quite right HSBC are probably playing silly beggars.
Well, I did this today, and while HSBC said they can't change the status of the account in my credit record because it's historical they said the important thing is that the current status is 'settled'. However that doesn't change the fact that this historical default will remain on my record for 6 years
Not much that can be done about it now. I just hope it doesn't affect the quality of the mortgage I buy. The question is, should I put a note on my file? And how should I word it? Anyone?0 -
HSBC have done the same to me, my rent bounced by 1.20 450 pound rent so they returned it, which i thought i would be ok because it was under a tener but i complained and they said by good will gesture they wouldnt charge me but they have put a '1' on my report.
would of rather paid the 25 quid!!!
Any ideas how I can get them to take it off... mad because i had a managed loan which is nearly paid off..paid perfect and everything paid off in double the time it would of been if i kept to the credit agreement.
hsbc may ruin my mortgage chances

HSBC are the only bank I'm aware of that do this. Happened to me over a returned direct debit, so I switched banks

did you not have an overdraft arranged on the account? I'm very surprised they returned a payment for going over by only £1.20! Or did I mis-read?0

Your wrong assumption that "under a tenner" would be OK is what might ruin your mortgage chances.
Well, I'm being cruel and I doubt whether your chances are ruined anyway. I don't think you can insist they remove it - they are merely reporting that a transaction bounced which is true. The system relies on banks accurately reporting info and then leaving it up to lenders to decide whether something is signficant or not.
It will rapidly fade in importance as time goes by. There has been the odd report of people getting markers removed when they weren't really entitled to demand it. I think your best hope is to be nice and suggest that their action was disproportionate in the circumstances.0 -
I had the same problem with HSBC
Direct debit left my account - took me over my overdraft limit and they bounced it
1 late payment recorded however i got this removed by complaining repeatedly
First letter - knocked back by customer services
Second letter - knocked back by customer services team leader
Third letter - knocked back by customer services escalation manager
Fourth - i requested a final response so i could escalate to the FOS and they backed down and agreed to remove the late payment marker
Just keep at them and you may get it removed0 -

I thought they had a rule were if you went over under a tener they woudlnt charge you for that is all.
I have gone to santander for our joint account and i am in process of finishing my loan with hsbc so i can close it.
I will myther until they remove it

if you haven't exceeded your overdraft in 6 months I believe they allow you one transgression. after that they charge you. that used to be the rule, but i know things have changed in the past year..0

Ah, well, if it is a stated policy that you kinda have an automatic facility of £10, then my advice was rubbish!
But I suppose saying they won't charge you for something isn't the same as saying you are entitled to get it.0
