Just over 12 months ago, I purchased a couple of LED bulbs for home use. They are not cheap (£7 each) but are normally quite reliable and long-lasting. However, the PSU on one of them now appears to be faulty and the lamp is only partially illuminated.
I now find that the retailer only offers a 6 months guarantee with these bulbs. Is he within his rights? Most advertisers state that the lamps have an average life of 30-50,000 hours, but this particular seller does not.
I would like to know where I stand before I request a replacement.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Where did you buy them from?
If a UK seller, you need to read up on the Sale of Goods Act.0 -
One problem you may find is that the stated 30-50,000 hours is only an average. That means that some will last a lot longer, while some will last considerably shorter without being considered faulty.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0

The other issue here is proving the fault is inherent - after 6 months this will be down to you to prove and may be cheaper to just bite the bullet and buy a replacement.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
Lightbulbs are classified as consumable items, just like batteries.0

Maybe but the requirements of the Sale of Goods Act still apply.0 -
I had some phillips ones and emailed them to tell them that they broke within no time and they kindly sent out 4 new ones for free !0

Most LED lightbulbs are poorly designed - they may be cooler than incandescent, but still generate heat which is very poorly dispersed, and heat is the enemy of LED lifespans. Go for reputable brands from reputable high-street shops for your best backup!0

I bought some from HALFORDS in Washington Tyne & Wear and took one back after four months and was told that they are not liable even though some packs state that they last for thousands of hours. To be fair I started using Team Valley Halfords and the manager there told me he would exchange them as a goodwill gesture.0
