Storage of insured items following fire

After a meeting with the loss adjusters I was quite surprised to discover the removal and storage of contents comes out of the amount insured for the contents. Is this the norm? Also, as the re-build after fire of the property is quite dependant on the speed the insurance company works at the cost of storage could run to 10% of the insured value and effect the claim.
When you value your contents no-one suggests you have to put on top of that value the cost of storing them for 18months?

Why are you storing your contents and not having them with you at the rented accomadation the insurers are paying for0

The rented accomodation is fully furnished and compared to my house relatively small.0

I'm not quite clear on the issue here (sorry if I'm being dumb).could run to 10% of the insured value and effect the claim
If you haven't had to replace (some of) your contents then surely paying 10% of the value is not going to be an issue?
Storage would always be instead of reaplcement surely?0
