this is a vent, and I know that they are a profit making organisation but still not happy.
To start with our renewal was due this week and we received the renewal notice a couple of weeks ago. Loyalty pays dividends you know... Renewal £144 new member £96.
so as normal we tried to ring to cancel and 10 attempts later day, evening, weekend still no luck. Eventually forced to email to cancel as not prepared to join if they cant be bothered ti answer a call.
4 days before the membership run out I broke down, the AA came out. They diagnosed the coil.He started by saying that it was a simple and quick fix and had a coil on the van and better to fix it there.
He quoted £70... I had no idea if this was good or not. He fixed the problem and of to the van. Asked how i preferreed to pay and i said cash. He said that he was not able to offer a receipt and had to be card. I gave him the card and then he said if i had paid cash we could have got a discount. I said cash then and was told too late.
I assumed that the extra was a card processing fee and that he would have to pay for another while waititng reimbursement. all of a sudden the cost was £81.
he suggested that we got new plugs and leads. I knew a discount place and said about it and he was extremely pursuavive that I use another one. even to the event of giving me a card with his name on it.
Out of curiosity I rung them for a price and was quoted £30 inc, now i expected a mark up but that over 161%
I rung my local garage and even they only quoted £60 fitted.
As I said I know that they are a business but we had already paid our fee and that was the 1st call out of the year ... and our last.
Well thats my vent and now off to GEM which is cheaper and better rated than the AA

So you paid £81 as a call-out breakdown, and your garage said £60 fitted?
A difference of £21.
So to understand - you are angry at having to pay an extra £21 for an 'emergency' call out?
Do you live on the same planet?0 -

Why would they spend their money to phone and give you feedback?!! If you're going to ask people to do this at least have a 0800 number...:j30/7/10:j

It may look like 'only' £21 more than the garage would chrage - but the OP has already paid for the call-out in their membership fee. Also, I would imagine the AA man was pushing for you to use a particular outlet because he would get a discount there. So £30 quoted to you may be £25 to him.
We have been with Green Flag for years and always had excellent service. Also, I'm with Durham Girl - the AA can't be bothered to answer the 'phone when people want to cancel but expect them to pay for the call to provide you with feedback? It sounds like Sky - they answer straight away, but when you are waiting to cancel they keep you waiting for ages. I think the OP's post contains plenty of feedback.0 -

Exactly what I was thinking, even a generic number would have been better, lots of people have free 01/02 calls on an evening.
All I can say is thank goodness for Saynoto0870make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Assuming they actually answer the phone...
