Hi
Sorry to ressurect this old(ish) thread, but I thought I would give a quick update
and also explain about the moving
Basically MIL lives in a kind of sheltered accomodation where there are onsite carers who stop in each flat on a daily basis. She has recently had a knee replacement and the other knee is not good and will need dong soon too. She also has liver and kidney problems and is recovering from breast cancer....So as you can see, where she is is perfect for her to be looked after, she is in her 60s and obviously her health will only get worse as she ages.
Anyway, after leaving her to look around at private rental properties, she has finally come to the conclusion that she is best off where she is, the place she is in gave her ONE week to get rid of the dog, and so today we collected the her and she is now here with us. Jasper (our dog) and Sky hit it off instantly with lots of wagging and butt sniffing, they have been out in the garden together and in the house together, all of which has gone off with no problems.
Sky has been fine around our kids, basically taking little/no notice of them and walking slowly pst the little ones so as not to knock them over, she has a lovely temperement:)
Our cat has taken most of the days to just come into the kitchen, but i'm sure he will be brave enough eventually. I have set up a bed for him in there and his food is already in the kitchen anyway.... We already have baby gates on most doorways so not a problem keeping them apart. Sky hasn't seemed to be aggresive towards the cat, just sits there staring into the kithen at him.
Sorry for the old and long post xxUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

Ah what a lovely lady you are.
I agree to move a veteran dog to a kennel environment would have been the worst thing possible.
She sounds like she'll be no trouble and socialising with your brood in the house and garden sounds like it will actually give her a new lease of life as opposed to being cooped up in a small flat.
Lovely story with a happy ending.:beer:0
