Help understand info please

Looking at the document properties on my laptop it says

size: 376 bytes
size on disc 4.00KB

on pictures it says

size: 922MB
size on disc 924MB

Please can some kind person explain how much space I have used?
Sorry to be so thick.....:o

    One file is taking up 4 Kilobytes of hard disk space, while the other files in your Pictures folder are collectively taking up 924 Megabytes (just under 1 Gigabyte) of hard disk space.
    Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.
