Recommendations for Scottish registry office

Hi

Not posted on this part of the forum before but hoping someone might be able to help me with where to start!

We are planning a very small wedding with only immediate family - hopefully around September. We will only have 10 guests and were just planning a registry office ceremony and then a nice meal - nothing too fancy!

We live in the north of Scotland where OH is from but my family are from Manchester so we thought we'd go for somewhere between the two. This leaves a pretty big area - basically anywhere south of Dundee and north of Carlisle!

Just wondered if anyone could recommend a small registry office somewhere in this area? I would prefer reasonably rural.

My other option is to choose a nice mid range hotel (preferably with a pool!) and then choose the registry office by proximity.

Recommendations for either gratefully received.

Thanks

  • Hi MilneBay, where about are you in the north? I'm in Inverness but planning on getting married around Perth/Dunkeld area - OH's family is from around there, and most of my family are actually Edinburgh based.

I know that the registry office in Perth (council chambers) is lovely, but we've had to discount it as it has no disabled access (need this for my sister). We've thought about getting married outside at the Hermitage in Dunkeld, but as we're loooking at Autumn next year, not too sure if it's the best idea with the weather.

I've not really looked in Dundee direction, but I know there are a few hotels around the Perth area that are nice - try looking up Huntingtower Hotel, it's nice but a bit out of our price range!

If you're looking a bit further south, you could always consider Grenta!

Yep! Getting Married in 11 weeks!!!! At Bunchrew House Hotel, have you heard of it? Im so excitied! How are your plans?

(Btw sorry to gatecrash this topic)
  • Oh, you've not got long to go at all! Yes, Bunchrew is gorgeous, it'll be so lovely at that time of year - if my counting is right, is that Rockness weekend?!

Not made any plans yet really (although I have my dress lol!), we've just moved house (actually in Nairn now) so been concentrating on that really, and had a lot going on in the past year since we got enagaged. But hoping to set a date soon for next Autumn, hoping to look at a few venues down the road in the next week or two.

(yes, I'm sorry too for hi-jacking this thread!)

Yes, its rockness weekend! We didnt plan it to be that weekend, its our anniversary weekend so thats why we picked it. i was abit worried about traffic for guests and OH getting there, but realised that its the opposite way so hopefully the traffic wont be too bad going through the centre! We are hoping to get married outside, but who knows with the weather, but fingers crossed!!

Life certainly does get in the way of planning doesnt it? Esp with a house move, thats never easy! Enjoy looking at the venues in Perth, hope you find somewhere lovely!

Let me know if i can help in anyway with people to contact, photography etc etc

Not rural but the registry offices in Glasgow are nice.

There is a small bit of greenery (residents gardens) opposite where pictures can be taken.

You are minutes away from hundreds of places to eat and plenty of places to stay too.

Thanks for all your replies. Will look at Perth and Dunkeld. Good easy access to both as will have family coming from Manchester and Edinburgh.
I'm just south of Aberdeen. Would actually love Inverness but bit far to ask people to travel.

With only wanting 10 guests wanted a small registry office so doesn't feel too empty.

Have you thought about a humanist wedding? They can be done anywhere so you could find a nice spot or hotel somewhere and not have to worry about a registry office to fit?

Another one here too!!! I'm kinda split between the Elgin area and the south of Scotland. Originally from the south but have moved up country and now only travel back down to work!

We are getting married in the south though....
