I am being made homeless tomorrow and I just do not know what to do.

I have been living with my familly for pretty much most of my life up until this point but as of tomorrow afternoon/evening I will be officially homeless. We gave our months notice into the landlords for the house that wich that we have been living in for the past few years and now my parents have moved into some sheltered accomodation and my brother has moved into a shared house, Leaving me here in this house untill we have to give the keys back tomorrow.

I have got no job, no money ( My brother gave me £40.00 before he left methis afternoon which was really very nice of him and i really am very gratefull for) And nowhere to go.

The past few weeks since i found out that I had to leave do just seem to have flown by and I really did think that I would be alright as i would be able to get some money from selling off all of my stuff, But this has not worked and now the only money That I have got is that £40.00 that my brother very kindly gave me, But that Is not really going to get me very far is it?

I just feel really sick and I just can not stop myself from crying as Come this time tomorrow, I Am just going to be roaming the streets.

I do know that At 22 years of age I really should be able to support myself but I have been looking for work and stuff but there is just not much about, My local newspaper only had one job in it this week, One.

I was just wondering if anybody had any good, constructive or helpfull advice for me, With regards to what I should do ect?

My mum said a few weeks ago that the council would give me somewhere to live, But as a single, 22 Year Old Male, This is just not going to happen. I could find somewhere myself but even if i could get some housing benefits ect, I still do not have enough money for a deposit and any up front rent that would / or that maybe required.

So what should I / Can I Do? Can anyone help me at all? Thank You.

Time to ring around and find some shared accomodation for yourself. You can get the council to pay housing benefits for some of the rent maybe all of it. Are you on Job seekers allowance? You could try borrowing the money for the first months rent or find a landlord who will accept weekly rent payments as a lodger it's much more likely you'll find someone who will.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Do you have any friends you can stay with for tonight?

Here's a link to the Shelter page for people who need emergency accommodation. I don't really know much about this area but hopefully other people will be along with more advice, didn't want to just read and leave.

Your first step should be to declare yourself homeless at your Local Authority (Council) office. They may be able to offer short term accomodation such as a hostel.

With regards rent deposit whilst there ask do they do a rent deposit scheme, i am aware of certain councils paying the deposit in these circumstances and when you leave it is returned to them.

You could ask jobcentre for a crisis loan for help with rent deposits.

When housed you may qualify for a Community Care Grant/budgeting loan.

Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

Given your age and assuming you're single, would it be worth ringing round Butlins or Pontins type of places? I'm guessing they'd be thinking of recruiting about this time of year. As a bonus you'd have somewhere to live.
    Good luck.

Oh white knight how very helpful of you NOT- just what have you contributed.

OP, I would get the phone number of the Homeless persons unit and ring them tomorrow. they should have a private lettings officer who should be able to help. Have you packe everything, do you have any furniture tha you are taking? Hae yo ua freind who can loko after some of your stuff for you?

CRISIS may also be able to advise but you are best speaking to your local authority first.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

Apparently from Morcambe but not wise.
  • Everyone here is giving really good advice. I understand how you could have thought you'd be ok, but still slightly naieve on your part hun.

The first thing that I would do is phone/text/e-mail friends/family right now and try and get somewhere you can stay for the next few days. Tomorrow, get yourself down to a one stop shop and declare yourself homeless. This *should* have been done when you first gave the notice, or soon after! Next, go to the job centre and apply for JSA. While there, get the number for the crisis loan people and ring to ask. Also while you are there, ring Shelter and seek advice regarding hostels that you may be able to stay in while your waiting for housing...

I do have a slight worry about why your brother and your parents have just left you in this situation!!? I've a feeling there is more to this story than you are letting on?
6 debts down - 1 to go: just over £1000 though, soon soon....

Staying happy and positive through 2011 (hopefully!) :j
