Confused by E.On - sneeky practice?

Hi,

From what I can see online E.On have not issued a bill since November 2010 prevously it has been every 3 months.

We are currently on Price Protection R3.

Does anyone know if there is a penalty for switching early? (expires 1st May)

Also how can we get them to issue a bill?

This seems sneaky as if we leave they will withold the 6% monthly direct debit discount and also the 2% dual fuel discount on the £600 bill - quite a bit!

Any suggestions?

No last year if you receive paper statements from Eon you should have been informed they will now be 6 monthly as pay by monthly dd. If online it should still be quarterly, and PP R3 ends 1st May 2011, no exit fee, if you are dual fuel would be worth looking at Save Online 5 which is an online tariff. If you already bill online simply input todays read, will give an up to date balance and you can request a bill also if you want to see the break down of charges since November.
  • Thanks :)

So will we not lose the discount then?

If we switch today to another supplier, and it completes say on April 28th will we lose anything?
  • We inherited E.ON electric service with a flat we bought. When we sought to switch to a more favourable tariff with nPower (who supply gas & electric to all our rental flats) nPower advised us that E.ON had registered the flat as "business tariff" with ECOES. I'd never heard of them, but they run a register of business customers accessible ONLY to businesses. And E.ON, when I wrote to complain, wrote back that I should "manage my account online".

It's a scam, a reverse "slam": a freeze to prevent me from switching. (So long as my property is listed on ECOES nPower say that they can't switch my service. E.ON first has to release me, which apparently they are unwilling to do. Without a court order, I guess.) E.ON won't reply further to me, I've complained to the Energy Ombudsman and they say it will take time, they're overworked. I expect I'll have to file suit in Small Claims Court (moneyclaim.gov.uk/).

But a nastier piece of work than E.ON as energy supplier I can't imagine. I note that if you Google "EON sucks" you get plenty of hits; they rate one star out of five on several consumer Web sites!

I would contact Eon directly and never take the word of a competitor about the company that supplies you, they want to gain your supply and if already disguntled they will feed that to try and ensure you switch. What npower have said about ECOES doesn't make sense. Your meter has a profile 01 - domestic unrestricted (one rate) meter 02- Economy 7 meter. If the meter profile is 03 or 04 then you have a business meter. If the meter is a domesic meter (01 or 02) it is possible that former owner who put the supply on Eon engaged in a Business contract, but when you moved in a took on the supply, if it is a domestic property, with domestic meters you should have defaulted to Eon Standard tariff q uarterly billing as standard procedure. Check your Eon bill, on 1st page will confirm tariff and page 3 or 4 will list supply number for elec which will indicate meter type. No power company can legally stop you from switching unless a debt on the account for more than 28 days, and I belive in excess of £60 (check with Eon for their limit), and I must stress I'm not suggesting YOU are in debt with Eon, just that is the only way they can stop you.

With it being a flat you may well have a Heatwise or Restricted Hours Tariff (RHT) meter. These types of meters have two supply numbers, one usually a normal unrestricted or e7 meter the other is the boosst for electric heating. These supply numbers are related on ECOES, so a new supplier trying to gain yopur supply has to take bothe supply numbers on, and often when trying to leave a company when you have metering of that type, the new company only takes on one supply number and not the other, thus automatically the current provider objects to thegain, as it is not possible for 1 of 2 supplies to change over. Npower DO NOT support RHT or Heatwise meters if that is what you have. HGowever I would suggest you would benefit from speaking with Eon to get the actual facts rather than nonsense Npower are peddling.
