7 month old puppy 'dominating'

I have a 7 month old X breed (staffy and jack russel..I think?) female dog whom I have had since she was 8 weeks.

I'm not really sure how to explain her behaviour but I'll give it a go. She will occasionally steal a cushion, the duvet or her own bed and 'dominate' it.

Perhaps dominate is the wrong word. Hmm. She tends to fully open her mouth, clamp her jaw around the cushion and 'suckle' it for 10, 15 sometimes 20 minutes without moving. When she stops the area is sodden with saliva. Her throat seems to doing a suckling motion while she is there.

Im not worried about her behaviour, just bemused by it and wondering if anyone has experienced the same?

Lots of dogs do this. It's pretty much the same as a child that sucks their thumb or has a special blanket.
A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.
  • Lovely. Thanks.

My pup had a 'thing' for towels, so she had her own pink sucky-towel ....... and looked really cute with it!
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
  • We had a dog once who had a security blanket well into adulthood. Puppy is at the moment cathecting tea towels off the aga and keeping them in her bed, I have given her one for her own, but don't allow her the others.
