11 seconds from power on to fully loaded desktop on my machine (Intel E8400 CPU, 3GB RAM, ASUS P5Q3 Mobo), and 17 seconds from power on to fully loaded desktop on the old ladys archaic 4 year old laptop (Tosh Satellite A210, AMD Turion 64 X2 (TL-56) CPU, 2GB RAM) - both running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
    Wow!
I'm probably just finishing the BIOS phase when you hit desktop...and that's with a (slower) ssd :)

I've configured my BIOS for the fastest possible boot time by disabling as much of the POST as possible.
I'm also overclocked to 3.6GHz (stock speed is 3GHz), although I doubt that has too much bearing on the boot time.

    What SSD you running then?

Boot time is about 30 seconds (+/- 3 seconds)
I'm running Ubuntu on a slow HDD
    not optimised this install yet..

Optimised i can get boot down to 17-20 seconds

with a SSD i could probably hit the magical sub 10 second mark. (one of the targets for Ubuntu Developers is to get the system to boot to the desktop and be usable in under 10 seconds with a SSD.)

Kingston V series, 64 Gb. I didn't have the £ for a faster one, and decided the jump from 7200rpm mechanical to "slow" SSD was significant enough..and it was, kinda, though I do realise 99.9% of the time it makes no difference to my windows experience, but that .1%, booting and loading a few apps is pretty good :)

The later Windows 95C used to get me to the desktop in 10 seconds - surprised me a lot too. Never beaten that.
