Egg being sold to Barclaycard

Is there any way you can stop Egg giving personal details for closed credit cards to Barclaycard ?
Egg quote the following but I still don't see why they should be allowed to do this :-
Please be aware that we're required under FSA regulations and the Banking Code to keep your details for up to 6 years.
As all our credit card accounts are being sold to Barclays your details will be passed on for them to keep as part of the above regulations.

Haven't you answered your own question in the Egg quote. FSA regulations / Barclays have bought the business.
Out of interest, why do you not want Barclays to have your details?0 -
Its a principle thing, I am not impressed with Barclaycard and they are not a company I want to do business with but I appear to have no control over what happens to my details even though I am no longer a customer of Egg. I believe that Egg are only interested in selling a number of customers to get the best price even though some of these are no longer customers. I take your point about the quote but the point they make may not be correct.0

If you don't have an Egg card anymore I don't see what information they would hold on you. (As long you paid it off in full that is)0

All paid in full, no problems, no bad history. But apparently not, as their quote says they keep your details for 6 years and they will pass these to Barclaycard regardless of whether you still have an account with them.0

It actually says "up to" 6 years.silentvoice wrote: »...as their quote says they keep your details for 6 years
It doesn't say that though. It says "As all our credit card accounts are being sold to Barclays..."and they will pass these to Barclaycard regardless of whether you still have an account with them.
Why would they sell a credit card account that doesn't exist anymore? EDIT: Unless it's to do with the possible presentation of CPAs. However, with a maximum 3 year renewal I think it's fair to say there's not much chance of account reactivation once this time period has passed?
At the end of the day though, even if your suspicions are correct you agreed to this possible eventuality when you read, understood, and agreed to their privacy policy and T&Cs before signing on the dotted line...so there's not an awful lot you can do about it now.0 -
I dont understand what the big deal is. I had an Egg card, paid it off in full and shut it down last year. Not bothered whether Barclays have my details or not, although they probably do anyway as I used to have a Barclaycard and Barclays current account, all paid off and closed about 5 years ago.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Isn't it just the account information that they still "hold" to report settled accounts to CRAs? Even though they wouldn't post updates, should anyone inquire about the account on the credit file, they must be able to dig out information on it. If they completely transfer every account, Barclaycard should inherit this task as well.
Hopefully it won't be a similar Citi/Opus blunder with BC sending cards for Egg cards settled 5 years ago
Enjoy the silence...0 -
They'll need to keep the details in the event of customers asking to see their agreements at a later date, or questioning an old transaction. The data needs to be held somewhere, and Egg won't want to be dealing with customer calls after they've migrated.0

Does anyone know what this means exactly, 'Barclaycard will be in contact with you and send you a new car (providing you satisfy their reissure criteria)' ?
I recently closed my other CC account, with the Bank of Scotland, as they were increasing my interest rate. I have a balance on my EGG card currently at 0%. I understand Barclaycard will honour this rate for the original period agreed with EGG. But my concern is if I don't meet Barclaycards reissue criteria, they may not send me a new card and close my account. I'd rather still have the one cc for emergencies, but don't think I would be accepted for a new cc with a different provider. My credit rating isnt bad, but it's not great and I'd rather not apply for new credit as I'm only 20 !
Any help much appreciated
Whats meant to be will always find its way...;)0 -
It depends on their crtieria. But I would hazard that if your account is still active and being operated within the t&cs, then you would get a new card. They'll probably be looking to not recard dormant accounts. But there'll obviously be a chance anyone could not be recarded if you don't meet the criteria.
Your 0% promo should still last the same period though.0
