Prescription charges - when do kids start paying?

Does anyone know - If they stay on at school do they have to start paying on their 18th birthday, or is it at the end of yr 13? And if at the end of yr 13, is it when the summer term finishes, or is it when the summer holidays finish (start September)? Presume dental charges would be the same.

I already realise that university students have to pay.

I'm sure I just read under 19s in full time education are entitled to free prescriptions. Check it on the NHS website, but I'm sure that is the rule.

Agreed, recall my daughter fumin' when she had to pay or should i say when i paid when she was 19 and still at college.

It should be on the reverse of a prescription
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

If at 19 they are still in education then there is nothing to stop them appyling via HC1 form for free prescriptions on a low income basis. I did and got full help :)

The exemption applies whilst you are receiving child benefit, this would normally be end of August if they finish in the summer term.

It is something that I have been looking into recently both at dentists and with pharmacist and I have been told that they can get free dental work and prescriptions providing they are in full time education right up to the date that they are aged 19. I believed it would stop this year(when aged 18 and finsished A LEVELS) but apparently as they are off to Uni September they can continue with free entitlement up to their 19th Birthday :)

The back of the prescription reads:

aged 16, 17 or 18 and in full time education. We say that in the summer if the person is planning on continuing education then they can claim until the day before their 19th birthday.
