NPower - a positive!

IN terms of their customer service today - as it is so rare I felt compelled to tell everybody about it!!

My latest bill has left me in deficit  partly because of their decision to charge most of the higher tier rates for gas during the winter period and partly because of lots of estimated bills (yes, I know I could have sent them readings - I now do to avoid this happening again!) Anyway, they stated that they were increasing my monthly DD by £40 per month, which I felt was too much. I agreed to an increase of £20 per month and have taken steps to reduce my gas consumption - we are having cavity wall insulation fitted in a couple of weeks' time and have fitted reflective stuff behind radiators, switched timer so it is on less and reduced the temp - all of which should make a difference next winter.

Having had a very rude person last time this happened, I had the most lovely lady today who was very accommodating with my suggestion of what I felt was fair - the last man was very dismissive and condescending. She asked for my feedback and asked what NPower could do to stop me switching later in the year (when I have gained some benefit of the lower tier tariff). I advised how I felt it unfair that they charge the way that they do, and that they charge a penalty if I want to switch tariffs within their company. Now I am not naive to think that they will act on this info, but her attitude was what I am happy about - I felt like she was listening, and I know that it isn't her fault that the pricing isn't fair. I will still consider switching later if other providers are cheaper!

A rare post in respect of npower. Pleasing to hear but one swallow....

Best time to switch from them is around beginning of September. You are now just entering their period of very low Tier 1 and the punitive rates kick back in on 1st November. Allow 6 weeks for the switch and you should be away from them by then.

Are you sure it was an npower person you spoke to, When I read your post I nearly dropped the laptop. I suppose it is getting near to April 1st, perhaps she was just having a practice run.
