British Gas billing - what next?

British gas have been billing me on the wrong meter number for three years. This was discovered when I changed supplier in December but BG continued to bill.
I raised this with them in January. They identitifed that I was paying for another flat, and vice versa. I logged onto my account a couple of weeks later to find both meters under my name. Both showed they were up to date with payments - mine by DD and ther other owners through paying invoices.
Thenthe meter I had been paying vanished, leaving me with the one I should have been paying but minus all payments paid by the previous account holders. Those account holders were tenants who have now left.
I get daily phone calls from BG stating that I owe £860 and every day I discuss it with them on the phone and nothing seems to happen. I have written to their Chief Operating Officer and had no response.
I am concerned that this will damage my credit file and it really has to be sorted out. What would the next stage be? BG have had three months to sort this out.
Thanks
SB
