Natwest Closed my account and making it hard to get my money back.

NatWest I am told today has made a 'Commercial Decision' to close my e-savings account, no other reason to be given just closed. Well that’s fine if they don’t want me as a customer it don’t want to be their customer, but...........

They wont send me a cheque, as they say they don’t do that, I must go into a branch (Any Branch) and collect it, no problem but I am in Scotland and it would cost me more to get to a branch than the £10 balance !, also this account was opened online (As its not branched based) and the account terms tell you it cannot be operated via a branch.

So can I force them to issue a cheque on any grounds, or can they force me to collect it from any branch ?.

Any help would be appreciated as I don’t really want to lose £10 for nothing, and the other problem is that I don’t have a driving licence or passport which the guy said I would need to collect it.

Would they not arrange a transfer to a designated account at another bank? As it just says commercial decision and it is for such a small amount surely they are not suggesting malpractice.

You can't force them to write a cheque as there is no such rule. Have you asked if they can do a transfer to another account?
    Best Regards

Hi, I never thought of that, it would have to be a external account as I have no other Natwest Accounts (Thank God).

I have my suspicions as I had a Miss-sold bond with NatWest 2 years ago, kept getting the run around and eventually had to refer it to the FOS, they paid out reluctantly so I dont think they like me.

Why not make a good deed by telling them to donate the money to charity.
£10 can't be that important to you - move on.

Yes, I did that a while back with a small balance, £2, owing from a closed Natwest current account. They refused to send me a cheque so I suggested they donated it to the "Bankers' Financial Hardship Fund", it didn't go down too well but I did receive a cheque two days later!
