    Hi Lorietta,
I've received some very good feed back from everyone that's replied to me and yes, I have noticed that some of the posters have been promoting this - but I'm getting a very broad range of replies, from people agreeing to some saying leave it alone. They have all got valid arguments. We are aware that if he went for law in the States he would have to do at least another year on conversion when he returned home. If he went to the States on a soccer scholarship he wouldn't have enough time to do both law and soccer, as the law course is quite intensive. It's quite a quandary really - my daughter wants to do the best she can for her son and give him everything he wants, but he can't have everything! Thanks for your reply - I seem to have opened quite a hornet's nest! I didn't imagine I would get so many replies.

Hmm, is anyone else suspicious that the posters promoting this seem to have only posted in this thread, it kind of seems a bit fishy to me...

Nothing to say on the subject of soccer scholarships tbh, but if he wants to practise law in england after his degree he will definately need to study here, or take a conversion course after his degree.

Hi...I am only posting in this thread because it's something I am interested in and can possibly help with as I have in-depth knowledge on the topic. I came across the thread when looking for something else.

I am not "promoting" anything although I am advising on the way college soccer works in the US in general.

Hi Johnnie, Yes, I completely understand that you're not promoting USA college soccer. I believe one of the other early posters states that he is a promoter (or whatever you want to call them). As I said in my earlier reply, everyone that's posted about this topic - whether for or against - has had a very valid argument. I've passed all the comments on to my grandson and he in turn has been mulling over everything that's been said. Actually, since his meeting with Soccer Icon and reading the comments, he is taking a much less blinkered view. Only time will tell which way he'll go, but whatever he decides he'll have the full support of his family. Watch this space!!

    Thanks.

No Worries. Actually I am promoting the USA college soccer route if its right for your grandson, but I am not promoting any specific company or promoting anything that I would benefit from.

    Good luck!

    Hi Johnnie.
    Thank you.
  • Hi Johnnie III

I've been busy and not logged in for a while and noticed that the conversation had moved on. I haven't got round to checking the length of my son's scholarship officially. I spoke to my son in America who agreed with me that we were told his scholarship would not increase during his time there. I haven't contacted Soccer Icon as I know they definately said this. Also, my son's friend who is in another part of America is in his second year on the same scholarhip arrangements he went there with. I haven't entered into any correspondence yet for this year so can't be 100%. I imagine forms will need to be filled in over the next few months for his return in August/September and I will return to this site if his scholarship details change. So if gillbaby's grandson is still considering this company for next year it might be worth logging back on in a couple of months time.
  • And just as an after thought and in response to Lorietta's concerns - I don't make a habit of joining in on online conversations, I don't have a facebook or twitter page as I'm usually busy doing other things. I usually read blogs to see if they are helpful, this is the first time I've ever responded. However, I stumbled on this thread and was drawn to it as my son obtained a place through Soccer Icon and thought my experience could be useful. I've also been interested in the other comments as I want to be sure that I made the right decision in supporting him to go there.

Thanks Always Cautious. I've read all the comments from people with great interest. I didn't expect half the response that I've had and all the differing comments have been very helpful. They have certainly given us all something to think about. From what the gentleman at Soccer Icon said to my grandson - he wouldn't be interested in him until next year anyway. I assume that is for the August 2012 intake, hopefully he'll know which way he wants to go by then. As I keep on saying - Watch this space. I'd be interested in how your son gets on too. Good luck to him.

HI - my son is due to go to America in August after securing a scholorship through Pass4Soccer. I am in the process of tying up all the paperwork and wondered if Johnny or alwayscautious could give me any advice on type of Insurance i would need to take out for my son whilst playing soccer. I know i can get Long Stay Travel Insurance but that wouldn't cover him should he become injured whilst playing soccer. It seems a minefield to try and find an insurance policy so i would be interested in your advice.
    Many thanks

    Hi Moffey

my son is in the USA at a univerisity playing soccer and his university insures him WHILE they are playing/training etc
i would ask coach that they do the same at that university
but we also take out insurance with a company called coeconnections who do a study abroad insurance it works out to be about £180 for the year but you can do it in months

we used to use Ensleigh study abroad insurance but they now only do study abroad insurance for students who are at UK universities and go to the USA for a year or so

    hope this helps
