Electric bill and county court

I had various issues with my bills for my business, and EoN refused to look into them; I eventually ended up with a bill over £20,000, although I calculated that after corrections for the faulty meter etc the bill would be less than £4000.
THey then sued me in the County Court, but after over two years the claim was struck out.
THey are now sending emails and letters demanding payment of the full amount - even though I am now unemployed, been turfed out of my previous address (by family, who tore up a business tenancy) and suffering severe depression.
I thought that when I had finally got the court case (one of the causes of my depression) over that I could move on - I would rather that they had won and made me bk than this situation which I can only see stretching even further in to the future and hindering any hope of my recovering.
How should I respond to them, considering I do not have anything to offer them.
I am in despair, please help with suggestions

What do you mean struck out, did they rule in favour of the plaintiff (npower) or you?
If the courts rule you don't owe the money then see a legal bod.
  • There was not a ruling on the merits of the case.
EoN did not attend a case management conference, and the claim was stayed; they then had time to apply to lift the stay, which they failed to do, and so the court ordered that the claim was struck out.

So does that mean that you now don't have to pay them? If you don't then threaten them with court for harassment. If you do have to pay them then you need some debt advice so see a debt counsellor.

I would be inclined to write stating it was struck out by a Court of Law & you deny the debt, also that you consider this continued pursuance of an unwarranted claim harrassment, request they desist with this behaviour immediately unless they wish to take it back to the Courts

I think you seriously need some legal advice. I'd go to citizen's advice and request a free 30 mins with a solicitor - I should imagine your situation is very simple in law - either they can persue you for the claimed debt after being thrown out of court (for whatever reason) or - more likely imv (not legally trained), they can't. I expect they can request to set aside the striking out, and continue from there, but the judge/registrar would view the request on its own merits.

We've all got worries - the recent events in Japan make me feel like all my worries are totally trivial.
