BG £72 cashback a year ago? Dreamt it?

Little over a year ago a British Gas agent came to our door. He said he signs us up and we will get after 12 months custom £72 cash. I cannot find the paperwork unfortunately, but when I called up in February they said oh yes it has not been credited back to your account, I did it for you, it will show up on your next bill. It did not. Then I called this week and the woman said there is nothing marked on your account to that effect, that we should give you £72, and I don't see why the other agent said what he said in February. Have I dreamt this cash back offer, has the agent lied about it to get the commission (which they do I have read elsewhere)?
My question:
HAS ANY OF YOU HEARD? HAVE BEEN OFFERED THIS £72 CASH BACK OFFER ABOUT A YEAR AGO?
I am changing to e-on to punish them because not only BG kept us on the Standard tariff but did not offer anything lower even though I got internet billing only and they have a much lower tariff that would describe me, the Websaver v. 11. So even though it is the second cheapest I am changing to e-on and never want BG again! Their customer service rating is worse anyway. Thank for anyone who would read this and help me out!

  • it may show on your bill as a miscellaneous credit, and it may not be shown as exactly £72, due to vat being worked out at the end of the bill.

How have BG 'kept' you on the standard, its generally the customers choice to go onto a discounted tariff(since it is a contract, they would not but you onto websaver 11 without your permission), unless it was agreed at the point of sale,(in which case you can make them back date it - as long as you meet the criteria, dd, and paperless etc)

The deal was they will credit you back the value of the VAT paid over a year on the cost of your gas and electric, but the cashback reward was capped at a max credit of £75, so if your total cost is high and in excess of £75 vat paid on bills with BG you would only get £75 credit, and if less than £75 whatever VAT value was should be credited to you. If you call them they should confirm this
