in Credit cards
Hi all, nice to meet you.
I'm looking for some advice.
My partner got himself in a cycle of the dreaded car finance when we werent together. He kept changing the car before he had finished payments and now, years down the line, we have a 1 year old and another on the way.
The car he has is unsuitable and we desperately need to get a new one so we are on a mission to clear the finance and get straight.
He pays £180 per month to the company and puts an extra £20 per month to one side, I also put £200 per month to one side. This is because they charge us admin fees to do early payments so we let it build up then pay it in a lump sum.
The problem is it's not shifting. So he applied for the new barclay platinum credit card with a limit of £6000 to clear the car finance early (save on interest), then our money could go straight to shifting the debt.
He went on barclays online chat thingmy and asked an advisor can we balance transfer from car finance to this card and he said YES. However, he was accepted and the card has arrived with a £6000 limit and 18 month 0% on balance transfer, but barclays have said we can only balance transfer from credit card to credit card.
How can we get the debt onto a credit card and then balance transferred ASAP???
Sorry for waffling but it's all a bit confusing to me!
Any ideas please

It might be a case of a misunderstanding.
Ask Barclays if you can do a "money transfer" and does it qualify for the 0% rate and what is the fee.
Here are a list of cards that allow you to transfer to a bank account from which you can pay off the finance.

However be aware that he now have another £6K worth of available credit which could hamper getting a new card.
If you are in a long term trusting relationship then an alternative is for you to get the card.
I'm not saying he won't get it as I don't know his full circs but the recent Barclays card will have an impact on whether he'll get more credit.0
