Hi
I sell quite a lot of jewellery on Ebay, I have thought about trying some listings in French, if you are interested in translating some please send me a Private Message0 -
Hi,
I went self-employed when I was pregnant with my first daughter and did some translation and typing of dissertations/theses for students. I did have a website but it never really seemed to pull in any business. I needed to have the stability of a regular income so ended up back in the rat race again.
Anyway.....you guys motivated me and I'm going to get my brother to design me an 'Online French Translation' service website - should be quite simple - any suggestions as to what I should put on there? I thought just a quick description, and e-mail tab where people can just click and either type what they want translated or attach scanned copies, a fax no. incase they want to fax it and they can just pay by paypal? What do you think?
I work for the NHS at the mo so will have a look round on the intranet for NHS Trusts and councils when I'm at work on mon. I'm not native Belgian though I'm British - would that count to sign up?
The qualifications I'm def going to look into next year. Things are a bit hectic at the mo - I'm already doing a diploma in medical text processing and taking part in the 1024 for nothing challenge on this board.
Allais Francais only seem to have jobs abroad.
I have taken the iol no. down (their email doesn't seem to be working) and will ring them on Mon re: being an interlocutor.:T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T :T
and I've PM's pomeroy
Thank you to all and please give me any constructive criticism/advice on the website all ideas appreciated!!

Maybe the website won't be a big money spinner if you can get it done for free!! - the acuracy of the free translation isn't spot on though.JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0

I agree with your comment on the accuracy of 'free' translation sites jp. I have, in the past, made some money by translating technical documents, mainly machinery handbooks, but this was in the days before the internet, and I approached French and Italian Companies direct. Could be worth a mailshot though.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I did try mailshots to businesses when I was self employed but average response was 0.5%.JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0

That, unfortunately, sounds about par for the course I'm afraid. I was more fortunate in that I worked in quite a specialist area, and was able to do specific targetting of companies.
I hope something turns up. Language qualifications are generally pretty poor in the UK and I read that it will soon no longer be compulsory to even teach a second language at schools. Is this because every other country is going to speak English? I doubt it! :rolleyes:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. Hi,
This post seems to be of quite interest to me.
I am a Japanese Language professional and have experience of over 3 years, not native Japanese speaker though.
Have done all kind of jobs on freelance basis e.g. Translation, Interpretation, Teaching.
I have arrived in UK 6 months back and trying hard to find the similar kind of assignments and prefer to work on freelance basis.
I have already approached many Translation agencies but no luck, till today.
Any thoughts for me to make money with my Japanese Language skills??
Thanks a lot...
