Cat suddenly started scratching furniture.....

Morning All

I'm looking for a bit of advice about my nearly year old kitten. Up until recently he's been an angel when it comes to scratching stuff - he attacks his scratching posts like there's no tomorrow, but never touched anything he shouldn't of.

A couple of weeks ago however he started scratching my wooden bed and the carpet just underneath it. He hasn't caused any real damage yet, but it's just a matter of time.

He had an eye infection in January and the vet suspected a more serious underlying condition so he's had a full health check (tons of blood test etc) and was completely fine so I'm fairly sure this new behaviour isn't done to anything physical, and his normal demeanour hasn't changed either so I don't think he's stressed.

I was wondering if anyone might have any idea why he's just suddenly started doing this, and why it's only in one place and nowhere else in the flat?

Thanks for reading :)

Bailey

PS His claws are trimmed, but not excessively so.

    Welcome to cat ownership.

Some people suggest shouting at them, some suggest moving them on while hissing meant to replicate what mum would do. There the water pistol method.

But if you own a cat I think you have to accept that occasional there going to scratch where you don't want them to. Indoor cats are worse than outdoor cats for this behaviour.

Your cat may have grown out of his cat posts - have you seen the jumbo ones that are as big as an elephants foot? Or could you try putting catnip on the existing ones too and move them around the house to create new interest in them - or put them in front of whatever new area they are scratching?

    Good luck.

An old decent sized dried log should work quite well.

Theres a product that Kleneze do and its called Scratch No More, brilliant stuff, stopped my cat in its tracks.
Its citrus based, about a tenner but worth every penny.

In the meantime, spray some orange smelling spray, polish, put some orange peel down, it may help.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
