Born again bikers are still an appalling risk.
Possibly, but in this case it's not a born again biker, just someone new to it.
(I was referring to it being perceived that way and put into that category and tarred with the same brush by the insurer).

This person did not jump straight on. They had to do a CBT, then DAS test which includes theory, part 1 and part 2 (so 3 parts to the bike test), then (optional) advanced test and on top of the 2 years experience has 5 years conviction free and 3 years claim free.
Maybe a compulsory re-test is needed, if you haven't had bike insurance for say 5 years.
Perhaps, but it's not really valid in this case where the person has only recently done more testing than you can shake stick at.

You know what I think of insurance companies.
They probably have a statistic that shows the balance of middle aged people is worse, or they have slower reaction times.
There will be an answer, it'll also be the start of raised premiums across the board.

You only have to answer the question 'ever been refused insurance' if you have a contract in place and terms change and they refuse to keep covering you.

Insurers like shops don't have to serve you etc :)

    Yes we fully accept that.
It was just a bit of a suprise having had a clean licence for 25 years etc. etc.
There are some factors which I don't think they are taking into account. For example, the person has 25 years motoring experience.

But yes, you are right, they can do what they want and if it was my company I'd want that right too.

I've had insurers refuse to quote me because of a minor bump that happened even though no one claimed... In fact a lot of insurers refuse to quote me over that but theres still a very large handful that do etc

I guess you just don't fit their target market
