windows 7 clock

Hi

I have a new laptop (xmas) its running windows 7 64bit. The clock keeps randomly changing.

Sometimes a couple of hours either way and some times days (also forwards and backwards). I don't think there is anything wrong with the battery as it changes whilst I am using it. I have it set to sync with time-b.nist.gov. I have it set to the correct time zone.

Does anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like there is something very badly wrong with your motherboard, because once Windows has read the time from the CMOS clock at bootup, then it and the motherboard should take care of its updating, within a few seconds per week.

You could always try the pool of UK-based Network Time Servers on uk.pool.ntp.org - noting that the default synchronisation interval is seven days.

The battery on the motherboard (looks a bit like a watch battery) could be knackered?

I am having problems with the clock losing time on my PC (Medion MD8800) since I have started using Windows 7 all the time. In my case it is not a problem with the CMOS battery, because all is fine when I boot up with Windows XP (PC is configured for dual booting).

I have started using a free utility that will re-sync the clock at specified intervals to a whole range of servers. You can download Dimension 4 here.

I have set to re-sync every 15 mins and most of the time, the clock has lost between 5 and 8 secs over the 15 min period!!!

    Win7 & XP are both 32 bit.

Hope this helps you with your problems. :money:
