ryanair - any way not to lose money?

Hi
I have booked flights with Ryanair, but now cannot go due to have to attend a funeral (not a relative). When trying to change the flights online it is costing me more to change rather than just book new flights. I have just booked new flights for a couple of days after instead.
However is there anyway to change my original flight to another date (say January) without it costing more (ie is there anyway to use the £50 I have already paid them)?
Thanks for any help.

HI
I'm in a similar position. You have a couple of options:
You can pay a fee of £17 to change the date or route, but I think you also have to pay any difference in the price of the fare too.
Or you can try and get a refund for the portion of your fare related to taxes. However, I think Ryanair charge an administrative fee for this and I'm not sure how much it is - the reason I looked at your post is because I'm trying to find out myself. If I find out I'll let you know.0
