Surely you can only incriminate yourself if you have done something wrong?

    Who knows?

If you take someone for moral support, they cannot talk for you. A solicitor can.

    The solicitor cannot answer questions.

If you are someone’s appointee and their claim is being investigated, you should be able to speak for them. The person you speak for does not have to go, unless they want to.

I don't really think that someone who is working whilst signing unemployed has an appointee. I think you are 'clouding the issue'.

Just to clarify, most weeks I worked around 2 hours, many weeks I did no work at all. The most I ever worked was 20 hours as a one-off week when the manager walked out, and I had to cover.

    I am on minimum wage.

At an average over the whole of the last 6 months, I have worked 4 hours a week. I shall fill the form in that I've been given, but I shall take all my payslips with me, and my bank statements for the same period.

I was just going to take a friend (a local Councillor) along for moral support.

Many thanks for your thoughts and comments, they are very much appreciated.

No, not clouding the issue, just confusing myself.

I'll give all this a break and have a rest.

Yes. I did get the solicitor talking for you wrong.

    Apologies:o

Agreed, if you do take legal representation or an adviser or a friend along for support you can ask for advice from the said person whether it be under interview conditions or in private but it is you who has to answer the questions
    In addition, the representative can:-
    • keep notes of the interview. Notes can help the client establish her/his version of events as transcripts of interviews are often disputed
    • ensure the interview is carried out according to the correct procedures
    • ensure the client has understood the questions
    • assist the client in writing a statement.
