Barclays Contactless Complaint - am I nuts?

Caveat emptor. Buyer beware. Totally agree, but the bank has chosen to keep the facts from the buyer so the buyer isnt aware of this issue.
But the issue you have identified is the claim by the banks to retailers that people will spend more.
Consumers who choose to use this technology are obviously very aware of how much they use the card.Of course the banks dont have to support people manage their finances and maybe they dont see that this could impact the most vulnerable consumers, they just have to make profits. As always it ll be the most disadvantaged in the community
I'm very tired of this kind of argument where XXX can't/shouldn't happen because of the generic "vulnerable" and "we all have to pay". We are not talking about loan sharks or drug dealers here.
The more you identify certain people as "victims", the more people that hop onto the "misselling" thing. Endless threads here of that sort. Then yes - we do all pay. All because of a mindset that licenses people not to take responsibility for themselves.
It seems you have political issues with capitalism/profit motive/free markets/banks etc. That is the system we have - your real remedy is therefore political. Join a party, campaign, write to MPs etc.0 -
Your logic is flawed
A contactless card will make spending *in this way* easier -so by your reasoning people will use *this medium* more. You are assuming that using the card more will encourage people to overspend-when in fact it may only encourage them to use this particular method more in preference to carrying cash.
You are assuming that this is a bad thing-exactly why ?
It's not like shops will refuse to accept cash tomorrow -it's a choice to use this method or not -in the same way people currently choose to use cash/debitcards now. Personally I find I spend less now if I only carry cards although a few years ago I had a different mindset and used cash for everything as it made my spending seem more "real" -people react differently. I personally see no difference between using a debitcard and this card except speed -I don't believe people are so stupid that they think it's an unlimited resource (or at least no more so than the minority who regard creditcards in the same way)
Sorry I think your arguement is without merit too and I'm amazed Barclays even bothered replying as your arguements don't make any sense.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Whatever happened to free will?
The OP's argument seems to be based on holding companies responsible for their customer's lack of self-control, much along the lines of blaming McDonalds for obesity etc.
I wouldn't want to live in the sort of Orwellian nightmare that would result if the population were "protected" from exercising their free will for their own good.0 -
I dont think I being unreasonable.
Yes. If I were Barclays I would have ignored your comments.
Supermarkets are laid out to encourage us to spend more, should we have to sign a form to say we understand this every time we enter the building? Adverts encourage us to spend more, should we be told this in BIG BOLD LETTERS at the beginning of every ad break on TV? If we have cash in our pockets we are more likely to spend it, should ATMs only dispense our money when we have pressed a button to say "OK, I understand I might want to spend my money"?loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -

Just ignore spammers next time rather than quote them. You're only perpetuating the spam.0
