Either you have paid your rent (on time and in full) or you haven't. "Mostly" isn't good enough.

Doing a runner equates with not giving notice and leaving with rent unpaid.

Smart people would be concerned to keep their credit record clean and to fulfil their contractual obligations.

Theres only so much you can do with what you've got.
I take it you're one of the ones who's had it easy and always had finances available to keep you out of debt. I'm not so lucky, my life has been hard, but this new job will change all that. I'll be on more than anyone else my age that i know and have every intention of clearing all money that i owe to everyone now i have the means to.

I guess it's the way it came across.
They are 2 seperate issues- LL should not have left flat in a dangerous state and has a duty to repair things if reported to them and you also have a duty to pay the rent on time. 2 wrongs does not make a right so you need to try and get your rent uptodate as soon as possible and get on to the landlord to get things fixed also.

  • I will most definately get the rent up to date before we leave and my landlady wants to come down herself to do a check so we may have to mention to her face to face about the problems with the house as mentioning to her middle man obviosly did no good.
Thanks for your help everyone. I feel much better now knowing where i stand

This is precisely the problem you have regarding the repairs.

"may have to mention to her face to face about the problems "; "mentioning to her middle man obviosly did no good."

'Mentioning' is NOT the way to go, either to the agent/middleman OR to the landlady.

WRITE. Follow the Shelter procedure. Jeez, how many times.......
