Recruitment Agency

Hiya

would anyone know or have joined any Recruitment Agency and given them they bank details and NIN ?

I have joined a agency and im a first timer with a agency , they have called me for a full registration tomorrow and im not comfortable in giving my bank and NIN details.

Is it normal / does all agencies ask for these details?

If anyone is a member of a agency and tell me how it works would be great help.

Thanks.:)

It's only normal if they are the ones who are going to be paying your wages, like a temping agency for example.
If their role is just for them to send your CV to potential employers then if successful arrange interview times etc then it's not usual.

I've been signed up with loads of recruitment agencies in the past and every one of them has asked for bank details. Can't say I've ever thought twice about giving them myself but you could always say you don't have those details with you or you'd rather not give them unless you get a job through them.

  • It's because generally if you are on a temporary role you are employed and paid by the agency rather than the company directly

Most of the ones I've signed up with have asked for bank details and national insurance number. They generally pay your wages and NI so they like to have them on record so that if they do put you in a job they don't have to be chasing people up for them. If you're really not comfortable giving them then say you will give bank details when they find you a job - think they might ask for NIN anyway though as it's proof for them that you're eligible for work in the UK.

I would never give an agency my bank details unless they found me employment especially in these days where ID fraud is apparent more then ever. many of them probably would never offer you employment anyway and would just have 100's of peoples bank a/c details unnecessarily on file potentially waiting to be lost or stolen.

If an agency insisted on bank details, I used to give them a false made up account number with the correct sort code and then advised them of my correct bank account details if and when they ever found me employment. It was never a problem.

Until you forget, and they process the details, the account number happens to be genuine, and you have no recourse because you provided the number and signed the form. Banks don't match account names, only the numbers.

OP, if you don't want to hand over your bank details straight away then 'forget' your card and take the form to return as required. It is standard for temp agencies to request this at registration though.

Providing proof of NI and Birth Certificate is a common 'elegibility to work' combination, and I really wouldn't worry about it.

It would be very stupid to forget and in my case never happened.

Can't understand why agencies insist on your bank details on registration, when the likelyhood is that they won't offer you any work at all. I was happy to provide them after they found me employment but not if they didn't.

I registered with a agency last week and they asked for my bank account details, If you want employment through them then you have to give those details or they won't even take your registration.
  • They only need bank details if you are doing temp work through them but they absolutely do NOT need these details unless they have a job for you. They will try to tell you they need it for sign up because it saves them the job of processing your details when (or more likely 'if'!) they find you a role.

There is in my opinion no need to give them that information and as explained in an earlier post if they insisted on it at registration I would always give them a made up account number with my actual banks sort code.

If and when they found me employment I would tell them I needed to change my bank account details.

As ID fraud is still very much apparent, I would not give these details out to them unless they offered me any temporary employment which most of the time never happened.
