  • I have to add to this thread, as a saver and account holder with the halifax of most of my life (im 25) I have to say I have lost all respect for the halifax.

I used to have a switch account, which for some unknown reason was down graded to a cardcash solo account, (even tho I had over £1000 PCM going in) but I didnt really mind this at the time because with a cardcash account you dont spend what you dont have.

At last I find most shops accept solo, untill my card gets renewed and I find to my horror that they have done away with solo and gone with visa electron instead.

To say Im miffed is an understatement, I tend to shop alot online and find hardly anywhere takes it, and on the high street certain stores I use dont take it either.

I want to spend my money.... and after asking at my local halifax branch I've been told that solo has been scrapped and im basiclly "stuck" with it. >:(

So I got thinking... why should I stick with an account I cant use, and get no intrest on. So I try to upgrade to the current account.

I was declined. I have no bad credit and no CCJs and I was left baffled to say the least. However, the halifax employee did tell me I am guarnteed to get a £7000 loan if I wanted because it was flagged on my account. ???

Confused? Well so am I...... after a bit of shopping about I have now opened (hassle free) a current account elsewhere and am now researching a decent savings account so I can leave all together.

Its right what Martin Lewis advises on the site, the worse thing you can do is be loyal to a bank... ::)

    Sorry peeps I gotta add.....

Just had a letter from Halifax this morning officially telling me I cant upgrade to a current account!

The bit that aggravates me tho is as follows:

"we sincerely hope you continue to enjoy and use your cardcash account with us"

    errrrrrrrrrrrrr I don't think so >:(

Solo hasn't been scrapted altogether only halifax have ditched it. I had the same problem with visa electron so I switched to natwest which still do solo cards.
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

Yeah Thats what I meant, I badly worded that lol ::)

Although the guy at the Halifax did say he thinks most places are going to phase solo out now.

The Halifax did me a favour really, I have now got a current account with cahoot which im happy with which comprises of a intrest free overdraft and intrest on the in-credit balance , which I never got with Halifax.

I'm going to write them a letter I think thanking them for declining my upgrade ;D
