Groupon cancelling closed deals...

Usually I'm happy buying vouchers on Groupon but this one really upset me. Groupon cancelled a deal I had purchased TEN days ago!
I already gifted the voucher and now face the embarassing moment of: "uh that voucher I gave you.. never mind, its worthless now".
Can they actually do that? Its been 10 days, payment has been made and the voucher was "delivered" by email..
So they oversold... is that my problem as a customer?
“Relax with a Choice of Deep Tissue or Sports Massage for £19 at St Pancras Physiotherapy (Value £55)” – deal cancelled, refunds processed.
We have an important update for those of you yet to redeem your Groupons at St Pancras Physiotherapy. As you will note below, unfortunately St Pancras Physiotherapy failed to plan adequately for the promotion. Consequently, we were left with no option but to cancel the deal.
We apologise for any disappointment this may cause and will refund you in full for this deal: simply email to discuss your refund. Please note that refunds take up to 5 working to be transferred back via your original method of payment.

I know what you mean about the embarrasment - I had a voucher declined @ a bar AFTER I had ordered a cocktail under the deal and the barman called me aside and told me the voucher had ''been used'' when I know for sure it definitely HADN'T - Not by ME anyway!
I had to pay for my drink and have NEVER left a bar more quickly or more ashamed :-(
I wrote to them and they said they would respond the next day - That was 4 days ago and have heard NOTHING
What upsets me is the humiliation ... Its not even about the money and how unfair and uncomfortable this has made you having to tell your friend about withdrawing her GIFT!
I'm just glad my daughter and her friend changed their mind about coming with me to use the voucher deal as we all would have had to end up paying for our drinks which were meant to be FREE with the deal
I'm not impressed either as have had another Groupon code NOT WORK this week as well!!
( WAS PREVIOUSLY VERY HAPPY WITH THEM BUT THERE HAVE BEEN WAY TOO MANY PROBLEMS NOW WITH THE CODES / DEALS ETC SO OF COURSE AM BEGINNING TO LOSE FAITH! LOL )0 -
what I m wondering all along: can they do that? if you bought the voucher code, are certain nobody used it, isnt denying you the purchased good / service fraud?0

Sounds like its more the ST Pancreas lads who are causing the problem and they must have been unable to cope with the demand. Don't see what you can do about it really. I would just apologise to the person who the gift was for and buy them something else. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I had a deal in manchester which was similar to this where the people who run the bar, write down the number of every voucher that had been redeemed and then when people come in they check against the list and see if the number has already been used. Sounds like your voucher was on this list which means one of the following things, Groupon have made a mistake and issued the same voucher to someone else, or someone has amended a voucher to a random code which has turned out to be your number, or the person in the bar has written the number down wrong when a valid voucher was used.
Its terribly embarrassing when something like this happens,This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
There have been a lot of problems with Groupon lately. I suspect what is happening is that Groupon are producing a greater number of vouchers than they have agreed with their clients.
They could be recycling the voucher codes. So a company agrees for 100 vouchers to be issues, so 100 codes, but Groupon make 200 vouchers and recycle the first 100 codes.0 -
yeah tis probably what I'm going to do.
What bothers me though is the double standard companies work with. If you go to a shop and buy an item that is perfectly fine but you decide you don't want it anymore, then the store doesn't have to take it back.
About the voucher codes: they should really just implement a barcode (those nifty 3d ones) and ask people to print the voucher, much harder to fake that.0
