Low cost travel & mid price hotel = impossible?

Me and my partner are looking to take a break next month, specifically around the 21-24 April time. We would prefer a 3 day stay starting on the thursday.
I've been looking around various areas, and found a nice place in Bristol that offered 3 for 2, so 3 nights stay in a 4* hotel for £140. Sounded good till we went to look a train prices, £192 for both of us. Even national express was £100!
Basically, looking for somewhere to stay in the UK that has cheap travel from Sheffield, and reasonable priced hotels. Not London, as although I can get £20 train tickets, the hotel prices are so incredibly high!
Help!!

Hmm it's Easter weekend. Wouldn't have thought too many offers about yet. Wait till a few days before. But then will be too late for decent train fairs. The futures bright the future is Ginger0

For the cheaper travel you could look at www.megabus.com Sheffield to bristol seems to be £20 for the 2 of you each way for your dates. You could go to OXford for £10 on the Thurdsay and £23 on the Sunday. You could go to Birmingham for £16 return for the 2 of you. You could try the 2 nights for 1 HI link and then check for 1 extra night.

You can start by not choosing those dates!
As for travel from Sheffield; what about Edinburgh?0 -
Megabus is fantastic and they recently launched megatrain on a few routes which got me back from Exeter to London for £8 (the nationalrail.co.uk site was quoting £140 for the SAME TRAIN!)
If you're looking for cheap accommodation in London, however,Not London, as although I can get £20 train tickets, the hotel prices are so incredibly high!

Have you thought of staying with a local host rather than a hotel? We (crashpadder.com) have 700 hosts in London who rent out their spare rooms for £20-£100 per night so that may be an option.0 -

Unfortunately, we both work, and as such the only dates we have available in the near future are those of bank holiday weekends.Per Mare Per Terram0
