oh btw did your last payment of jsa after signing off arrive on the usual day or was it delayed?

Mine was delayed and took nearly 2 weeks because my signing off booklet was misplaced by the jobcentre and they didn't enter it into the system until a few days after I handed it in so I've no idea of the usual turnaround time sorry.

oh something else i forgot to ask - all being well, i'll be signing off the day before my next signon, but do i still have to produce a jobsearch for the next 13 days in order to get paid jsa?

and does the final payment arrive at the usual time, or does it take a few days longer to be paid?

Well done on the job offer.

In addition to your job lasting at least 5 weeks, the 4 weeks run-on of housing and council tax benefits and Job Grant are dependent on being in RECEIPT of benefit for 26 weeks and 3 days. You never get benefit for the first 3 days of a claim - it is called the waiting days and these do not count towards your potential eligibility to run-ons / Job Grant.

If you have any disallowances during this period, even for 1 day, you will not get the run-on or Job Grant.

As for the process of signing off, it depends where you live. There should be no requirement to see your job search evidence if you sign off before your signing day, unless your Job Centre do things differently. You obviously should have still been job searching so if in doubt take your ES4 along with your ES40 when signing off.

JSA owed and P45 comes as quickly as the Benefit Delivery Centre close your claim down. Suggest you aim for 2 weeks as a possibility. If you struggle whilst waiting for your first payment from your employer you can apply for an 'alignment of wages' from the Crisis Loan section on 0800 032 7952. You will usually have been expected to have asked the employer for an advance of wages though.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

BTW, 'upstairs' will be Flexible New Deal!! ... but we're nothing to be afraid of and don't generally bite! :rotfl: As for asking about what it is, nobody will mind you asking and will not think you're trying to get out of anything, afterall you have a job to go to.

    thanks for your reply.

i signed on 27 sept and all being well will sign off 5 april, so that's over 6 months.

my very first signing on "upstairs" was due to be 6 april, so i won't actually start on that. any idea if i'll go "upstairs" when i sign back on 16 may?

somehow i don't think ONS will be too accommodating to a request for an advance on wages! maybe i'll take my booklet to the jc in person rather than do it over the phone, explain what's up, and ask them nicely if they'll close the claim there and then while i wait.

once again, thanks for the info.

From the 5th April to 16th May will probably be outside your 'linking period' so you may well not go upstairs when you make your new claim. :j

However, there are a few exceptions to the general rule and relate to the length of time out of work over a certain period of time, age, when last in education, etc. It will be specific to each person.

Best thing is to enjoy your job and wait and see what happens when, or maybe if, you need to sign back on.

been doing a bit of googling - amazing what you can find online these days. upstairs isn't part of new deal i don't think, it's jsa stage 3. and the linking period is 4 weeks regardless of whether i'd actually started stage 3 or not. so if i've read it correctly it's back to stage 1.

so that's worked out almost perfectly! well, i'd rather have got a long term job LOL. but if it had to happen like this then it couldn't've been better timed really - start just after 6 months, and the job last just over 5 weeks.

Why are you so reluctant to receive extra help in finding a job, isn't this your long term aim rather than popping into a Jobcentre every fortnight to sign your name

errrr where does it say in any of my posts anything about that? you're reading things that aren't there, probably to suit your petty little prejudices and preconceptions about the unemployed.

my comments about timing relate to qualification for housing benefit run on, job grant and working tax credits.

You are well aware that you get a run (HB/CTB) on for gainful employment lasting 5 weeks or more....

Read above again what you wrote and was thinking.

By the way good luck in your new job.

what's your point about my being aware about the 5 week qualification? that's exactly why i was saying about it being well timed!

every comment i have made on this thread about whether i go back to stage 1 or not has been absolutely neutral, and asking for information only. but you have chosen to interpret them as a reluctance to do so.

Fluffs, just to advise that Stage 3 is actually the start of the Flexible New Deal process with regular Advisory interviews, etc. Stages 1 and 2 are before FND as most people think of it (although technically Stages 1 and 2 are part of JRFND).

Also just to make you aware that linking periods are not automatic and it does vary depending on the specific person's employment / unemployment history / previous benefit claims, etc.

Not long before your job starts now which must be a great feeling. The Census pay is pretty good also if I remember rightly. :j
